Hon. Thomas Tayebwa

Thomas Tayebwa was born in Mitooma District, Western Uganda.


He is married and blessed with a son. He possesses a Masters of Business Administration (ESAMI), a Bachelors of Laws (Hons) and a Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences (Hons), both from Makerere University. He also holds a Certificate in Negotiation of Harvard Law School and a Professional Certificate in Parliamentary Affairs from International Centre for Parliamentary Studies, London.


Currently, he is Deputy Speaker of the Parliament of Uganda and Member of Parliament, Ruhinda County North. He served as the Government Chief Whip in the Parliament of Uganda before assuming the position of Deputy Speaker. He has also served on the Natural Resources, and National Economy Committees of Parliament. He was among the eight member select committee that investigated mismanagement of Uganda Telecom Limited (UTL).


Tayebwa is an entrepreneur with interests in communications and media, culture and heritage, transport, security and manufacturing. A renowned philanthropist, he founded TARU Foundation which has supported several community projects across the country, and helps several children from vulnerable backgrounds to attain education, medical care etc.


He has facilitated several youth start-ups with capital whilst also offering business mentorship. He is a Rotarian with a title of Major Donor. He is an avid golfer and Formula One fan. He loves reading and getting involved in community engagements.
