UNEB announces mandatory display of candidates’ register ahead of 2024 examinations

The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has directed mandatory display of candidates’ registration lists for the 2024 examinations.

According to the Statement released Monday 12th August 2024, The display period runs from August 12 to October 11, 2024

UNEB reports 1.3 million candidates registered for 2024 examinations. UNEB seeks Shs6.5bn for examiners’meals. The display according to UNEB aims to ensure transparency and allow parents to verify their children’s registration status.

Head of examination centers have been told to post the candidates’ registers in a visible location at school notice boards.

“This measure is intended to help parents confirm their children’s registration and avoid issues with unregistered students at the start of the exam period" Dan Odongo, UNEB executive director, said while emphasizimg the importance of this process.

He added that "The candidates’ registers should be displayed in a conspicuous place at the school notice boards where the candidates are registered”

For students in schools without UNEB center status, parents are advised to verify registration details directly with UNEB to prevent any last-minute complications.

“Parents of students studying in schools that do not have UNEB centre status should establish where these students have been registered,” Odongo said.

UNEB will also introduce an SMS option to facilitate easy verification of registrations.

Parents can check the registration status by sending an SMS with the candidate’s index number to 6600.

“UNEB shall provide an SMS option on mobile telephones during the period of display,” Odongo added.

In addition, UNEB requires accurate bio data on the registers.

Any discrepancies, such as incorrect names or dates of birth, must be corrected before the examinations begin

For Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE), amendments should be submitted via an online portal, while Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) and Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) adjustments require a formal request with identification documents.
