NRM party MPs threaten to confront opposition MPs over coffee bill.

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) party members of parliament led by the Government Chief Whip Hamson Denis Obua have threatened to front a solid team to ensure that the National Coffee (Amendment) Bill, 2024 is endorsed to abolish the Uganda Coffee Development Authority (UCDA).

Obua told the media at parliament while accompanied by some members of parliament that the position agreed upon by cabinet and as directed by President Museveni will be defended in Parliament once the plenary resumes.

Obua attacked some members of parliament who stopped the process of rationalizing UCDA.

“I wish to state that the NRM, from the meetings that we have had is ready to proceed, and we want to appeal to those who are against the Bill to raise substantive issues. We are not going to debate based on sentiments, we are going to debate based on issues. This is the kind of debate that the Parliament must get itself involved into,” said Obua .

Meanwhile, the Buganda Parliamentary caucus led by their chairperson Muwanga Kivumbi earlier this week formed two sets of committees to fight and frustrate the said Bill and tackle President Museveni’s guidance on the matter.

The Kibanda North county mp Linos Ngompek openly stated that “As members of the NRM, we are ready to take them on even if it means physically because we are not going to sit down and watch them disrespect our speaker. So we are also ready.”

“So I want to send a warning to them that they should not think that they are more than some of us. So we are ready to address them. We shall deal with before they attempt on those ideas of theirs.”said Ngompek .

Obua also revealed that the President Museveni has invited the NRM leaning Members of Parliament to attend a meeting at the Kisozi country Farm this week Friday 1st November and also dismissed allegations that the said meeting would discuss National Coffee (Amendment) Bill, 2024.

The meeting is scheduled to take place on Friday this week .

“I wish to confirm that the Friday NRM Parliamentary caucus in Kisozi, Gomba District is primarily a wealth creation meeting caucus where we are going for an evidence based mission because seeing is believing,”  Obua said.
